API pH Up raises the pH of freshwater aquarium water when it has tested too acidic for the fish being kept, working by neutralising acidic substances in the water to make it more alkaline. It is fast acting, colourless and phosphate free, so it will not encourage algae growth or discolour the water. Different fish prefer different pH ranges, a community aquarium generally suits around pH 7.0, livebearers such as mollies and swordtails prefer a higher pH of 7.2 to 7.6, while species like angelfish and neon tetras prefer a lower, more acidic 6.5 to 6.8.
Test the water's current pH with a proper test kit before dosing, and never change pH by more than 0.2 units in a 24 hour period if fish are present in the tank, since rapid pH swings are genuinely stressful and can harm fish even when moving in the right direction. Reaching a target pH from a starting point several tenths away can take several consecutive days of small doses rather than one large dose. Free delivery on all orders over 49 euro. Orders under 49 euro have a delivery charge of 6.95 euro. We deliver anywhere in the Republic of Ireland.
A pH that has drifted too low stresses fish continuously, even when nothing else looks wrong. This product corrects that gradually and safely, without the sharp swings that a rushed fix would cause.
No more than 0.2 units in a 24 hour period when fish are present, larger changes should be spread across several days.
Around 7.0 for a general community tank, though livebearers prefer 7.2 to 7.6 and species like neon tetras prefer 6.5 to 6.8.
No, it is phosphate free so it will not encourage algae.
Orders over 49 euro qualify for free delivery anywhere in the Republic of Ireland. Orders under 49 euro have a flat delivery charge of 6.95 euro.
Order before 2pm Monday to Friday and we dispatch the same day by DPD, next working day to most of Ireland.
