Thinking of switching pet shop

Updated 13 August 2026

Most people do not change where they buy dog food on a whim. Something goes wrong first. The order was late, the tin changed, nobody answered the email, or the subscription turned out to be harder to stop than it was to start. Here is what is different here, and where we are not the right answer.

Six reasons people give us

These are the ones that come up at the counter and in the inbox. Every claim below is either in our published terms or checkable against the other shop's own website.

1

You can stop after one order

Our subscription has no minimum number of orders and no fee for cancelling. Take one delivery and stop if it does not suit. Petmania's EasyRepeat asks for a minimum of four repeats before you can leave.

You can also pause it, skip a single delivery, change the frequency or swap to a different product, all from your own account. No phone call, no email, nobody trying to talk you out of it.

2

If the price moves you can walk

Prices change. Suppliers put them up, ours follow, and any shop telling you otherwise is either subsidising it somewhere else or about to disappoint you.

What we can promise is that a price change never traps you. Cancel from your account the same day, no fee, no notice period, no minimum number of orders to serve out first.*

3

It arrives tomorrow

DPD next day across the Republic of Ireland. Order before 2pm Monday to Friday and it goes out the same day.

Maxi Zoo quotes one to three working days and Petmania two to three. When you noticed the bag was empty this morning, that gap matters more than a euro or two on the delivery charge.

4

There are two counters behind this

Wicklow town since 2009 and Enniscorthy since 2017, both trading as Pet Depot, both open Monday to Saturday. You can collect an order free, bring the dog in, or ask a question and get an answer from somebody who has heard it a few hundred times.

The chains have more shops than we do. Zooplus has none in Ireland at all.

5

Something that helps you choose

Our Find Food tool asks about species, age, size and diet, then gives you three real products off our shelves with real prices. It takes about a minute.

Of the ten Irish pet retailers we checked, not one has a guided finder. Everyone else gives you filters and wishes you luck.

6

Our own food, made properly

Stanley's is our own grain free range, made at GA Pet Food Partners in Lancashire. It exists because we got tired of explaining why a bag with a nice picture on it was mostly cereal.

Being our own brand means we can tell you exactly what is in it and why, which is harder to do about somebody else's recipe.

* Subscription prices follow our shelf price and can go up or down. If you are not happy with a change you can cancel from your account at any time, with no fee and no minimum number of orders.

Where we are not the answer

Our catalogue is smaller than the chains by a distance. Petstop lists over 12,000 products and Zooplus over 8,000. If you want an unusual reptile substrate or a specific prescription line, they are more likely to have it.

Our free delivery threshold is €49. Petstop and Maxi Zoo are both €29, so on one small order they are cheaper. We deliver within the Republic of Ireland only.

All of that is set out plainly in our comparison of ten Irish pet retailers, our own row included.

Switching, in three steps

Order the same food once

Buy the bag you already use as a one off. Nothing to sign up to. See how the delivery goes before you commit to anything.

Cancel the old one when it suits

Wait until your new order lands before stopping the old subscription, so the dog never runs out mid changeover.

Set the repeat to your own timing

Once you know how long a bag lasts, set the frequency to match. Change it any time from your account.

Have a look at the range

No pressure and no sign up. If you would rather be asked a few questions than scroll through thousands of products, the Find Food tool takes about a minute. If you would rather ask a person, the shops are open Monday to Saturday.

Common questions

Is it worth switching pet food supplier
It depends what is bothering you. If it is price on a single small order, the bigger chains have lower free delivery thresholds and you would be switching for the wrong reason. If it is delivery speed, a subscription you cannot get out of, or not being able to ask anybody a question, those are the things worth moving for.
How do I switch my dog's food to a new supplier without upsetting their stomach
If you are buying the same food from a different shop, nothing changes for the dog. If you are also changing the recipe, introduce it gradually over about a week, starting at roughly a quarter new to three quarters old and shifting the balance every couple of days. Order the new bag before the old one runs out so you have both to hand.
Can I cancel a pet food subscription at any time
With Pet Shop Near Me, yes. There is no minimum number of orders and no cancellation fee, and you can pause, skip, change frequency or cancel from your account without contacting anyone. Petmania's EasyRepeat asks for a minimum of four repeats. Terms vary, so check before signing up anywhere.
Do subscription prices ever change
They can. A subscription price follows our shelf price, so if a supplier raises a cost ours can go up, and it can come down too. If you are not happy with a change you can cancel from your account at any time, with no fee and no minimum number of orders to serve out first.
What discount do you get on a pet food subscription in Ireland
Pet Shop Near Me gives 10% off the first order then 5% off every order after. Zooplus Repeat is the same. Petmania's EasyRepeat gives 15% on the first order then 5%, with a four repeat minimum. Petstop offers up to 10% but only on dog food, cat food and medical items. The discounts are broadly similar across the market, so the conditions attached matter more than the percentage.
Does Pet Shop Near Me have a physical shop
Two. Wicklow at 5 Church Street, A67 W289, open since 2009. Enniscorthy at Duffry Hill, Y21 X4E3, open since 2017. Both trade as Pet Depot and open Monday to Saturday, 9 to 6, closed Sunday. Collection is free.
How fast is delivery and what does it cost
DPD next day across the Republic of Ireland. Order before 2pm Monday to Friday and it is dispatched the same day. Delivery is free on orders of €49 or more, and €6.95 under that.
