Irish pet delivery and subscriptions compared
Ten Irish pet retailers, their delivery thresholds, their charges, their speed and their repeat offers, in one table. Our own row is in there with everyone else. We have not flattered it.
A family run Irish pet shop with two counters
Wicklow town since 2009 and Enniscorthy since 2017, both trading as Pet Depot. Next day delivery by DPD anywhere in the Republic of Ireland, free on orders over €49. The table below is us against the rest of the market, our own row included and not flattered.
Why we put this together
Every pet shop in Ireland says it delivers fast and cheap. Almost none of them make it easy to check that against anyone else, so we did the checking. Each figure below came off the retailer's own delivery, FAQ or terms page on the date shown. Where a figure could not be confirmed it is marked not verified rather than guessed at.
Prices move. If you are reading this well after the date on it, check before you rely on it, and tell us if we are out of date at hello@petshopnearme.ie.

Three things the table shows
The big chains win on threshold
Petstop and Maxi Zoo at €29 are the most generous in the market and neither of them is close to being beaten on that number. We sit at €49, level with Petmania and Zooplus. If a low threshold on a small one off order is what matters most to you, the chains have it.
Speed sorts into two groups
Next day by DPD is offered by us, Petstop, Fetch and Dec's Pets. Maxi Zoo quotes one to three days and Petmania two to three. That gap is a bigger practical difference than a few euro on a delivery charge when the food ran out yesterday.
Subscription discounts are much of a muchness
Almost everyone lands on 10% off the first order then 5% after, ourselves included. Petmania is the outlier at 15% on order one, though it asks for four repeats before you can stop. The discount is not where these schemes differ. The conditions attached to them are.
Where we come off worse
Our catalogue is the smallest here by a distance. Petstop lists over 12,000 products, Zooplus over 8,000, Maxi Zoo around 5,000. We are in the hundreds and growing. If you want an obscure reptile substrate or a specific prescription line, one of the big three is more likely to have it.
We are also not the cheapest on a single small order. That is the honest read of the first column and we are not going to argue with our own table.
Why people move to us
Not everyone should. If you want the lowest delivery threshold or the deepest catalogue, the table above says go to the chains. These are the reasons people give us when they do move.
No minimum, no tie in
You can stop a subscription after one order. Petmania asks for four repeats before you can. Nothing here locks you in and there is no fee for leaving.
If the price moves you can walk
We are not going to pretend prices never change, because they do. What we will not do is make it awkward to leave when one does. Cancel from your account, no fee, no notice period, no minimum orders to serve out first.
You control it yourself
Pause, skip a delivery, change the frequency or swap the product from your account. No phone call, no email, no retention script.
It arrives tomorrow
DPD next day if you order before 2pm Monday to Friday. Maxi Zoo quotes one to three working days and Petmania two to three. When the bag ran out this morning that is the difference that matters.
There are two counters
Wicklow town since 2009 and Enniscorthy since 2017. You can collect free, bring the dog in, or ask somebody who has answered the question before. The chains have more shops. They do not have these two.
Something to help you choose
Our Find Food tool asks about species, age, size and diet and gives you three real products off our shelves. None of the ten retailers in the table above has anything like it.
What we do have
Two shops you can walk into, in Wicklow since 2009 and Enniscorthy since 2017, staffed by people who have been answering these questions across a counter for years. Next day DPD everywhere else in Ireland. A subscription you can stop whenever you like. If you would rather be asked a few questions than scroll 12,000 products, our Find Food tool does that in about a minute.

Thinking of moving shop
If the table has you weighing it up, we have written the other half of the argument: the six reasons people give us for switching, where we are honestly not the right answer, and how to change food without upsetting the dog. Read that here.
A note on conflicting figures
Two retailers publish more than one number. Dec's Pets states free delivery over €45 on its delivery page and FAQ, and over €39 in the menu that appears across the site. Maxi Zoo states free over €29 on its order and delivery page, its FAQ and its terms, but free over €49 on its contact page. Zooplus lists €4.99 with free delivery over €49 on zooplus.ie, while the international calculator on zooplus.com lists Ireland at €6.99 with free delivery over €99. We have shown the figure each retailer publishes most consistently on its Irish facing pages, and flagged the alternatives here rather than quietly choosing one.
