Chipsi Classic is soft softwood shavings from German forestry, compressed into a 1kg presspack. Chipsi describe it as gentle on paws, highly absorbent, odour binding and biodegradable.
Softwood shavings are the workhorse bedding and the reason is absorbency. A rabbit or a guinea pig puts out a surprising volume of urine for its size, and bedding that cannot take it leaves a wet tray floor, which is where the ammonia smell comes from and where sore hocks start. Shavings hold it and lock the smell in. One thing worth being clear about, this is bedding and not forage. A rabbit or guinea pig needs a pile of hay it can eat as well, because the gut needs the fibre moving constantly and shavings do nothing for that.
Spot clean the wet corner daily and you will strip the whole cage far less often. Free delivery anywhere in Ireland once you spend 49 euro.
