Beaphar FIPROtec Spot-On for Large Dogs is a veterinary medicine containing fipronil, available without prescription, that kills fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours of application. It is suitable for dogs from 8 weeks of age weighing 20 to 40kg, and gives continuous protection against fleas for up to five weeks and ticks for up to four weeks when applied monthly. A vet should be consulted for dogs over 40kg. This single treatment suits an owner treating one dog or wanting to try the product before committing to a multipack.
Always read the full product leaflet and packaging before use. Weigh the dog carefully before application to confirm it falls within the 20 to 40kg range this treatment is designed for. Apply to the skin between the shoulder blades, parting the coat until skin is visible, since it needs to reach the skin rather than sit on the coat. It is quite common to see more fleas immediately after treatment as fipronil affects their nervous system before they die off, this is expected rather than a sign the treatment has failed.
